Warming up
It is Sunday, July 19th 6:00 PM – a time when I usually reflect on the past week and brace myself for a busy week ahead while daydreaming of the next vacation.
This is my seventh post in four months. I’ve got six days to go for the blogathon when I should be writing forty eight posts in twenty four hours, which makes me wonder what I just got myself into.
The reason I chose this theme (Business Analysis – Art, Science and Insomnia) and the event (24-hour Blogathon) is to combine what I do for a living (IT, Business Systems Analysis etc) with what I enjoy doing (Writing) while also contributing to a cause I feel passionate about (needs of the hard of hearing). So there you go. Perfect Storm, eh?
I’m also preparing to take the CBAP® (Certified Business Analysis Professional) certification exam offered by the IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis). So I’ll be sharing some of my observations during the process for anyone interested in this field – while trying to keep it interesting and engaging. Below are some topics I have in mind that you can expect to see on July 25th.
- Finding my Sweet (Blogging) Spot
- Writing the right requirements, and writing them right
- Introspection of Personalities, Traits and Strengths
- Being Creatively Analytical
- Meetings, Bloody Meetings
- Multitasking or Multiplying Inefficiency?
- To change a light bulb – Estimating
- “Houston, we’ve got an issue” – Risks, Issues and Impact Analysis
- Analysis Paralysis
- Signs of a Bad Design
- Lost in Translation
- The Business Analysis Jedi Training
- Knowledge Areas of Business Analysis
- Enterprise Analysis
- Business Architecture Frameworks
- Requirements Gathering
- Requirement Management Tools
- Object Oriented Modeling with UML, RUP.. OMG!
…. and so on.
I’m also hoping to add some guest contributions from fellow professionals with more knowledge and experience than myself and whose inputs I value. I would welcome any suggestions on such topics!
In addition, since I’m blogging for the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association with the goal of raising awareness of and collecting pledges to support this cause, there will also be a few posts featuring issues facing the hard of hearing at work, the technologies and mechanisms available, as well as insights from successful hard of hearing professionals.
So, will the Superman in Clark Kent come out? Will I be able to transform the pressure of work into the pleasure of writing? We’ll have to wait until July 25th to find out, won’t we?
Have a great week ahead!
A Business Systems Analyst pondering over requirements analysis, process improvements, project management, communication, story telling, the meaning of life and how everything fits together. This blog is to share my thoughts on all these and more.

Good morning from your friendly neighborhood monitor. I’ll be checking in from time to time to cheer you on. Good luck!
