“See what was said” – Visual Voicemail

Blogathon Workspace, 8:00 PM

Rogers began it, but TELUS went one step further and offered Visual Voicemail. Both have now partnered with Spinvox to provide this feature.

I think it’s great to have voice-mails delivered straight as emails to your blackberry. Hard of hearing persons in particular should make use of such voice-mail to email conversion features. The conversion quality isn’t too bad either.

Spinvox does a pretty amazing job. Its “brain” captures the voice, matches the words with its internal vocabulary and translates it to text. It has a brain that keeps growing, its voice-recognition absorbing more words every day.

Now, if only this translation can be automated and happen in real-time! Sprint’s Captel does something similar , but it isn’t fully automated from what I understand.

I use firefox because it’s familiar. And I refuse to pay for Word when it used to come with a computer for free, so I use OpenOffice instead.
