The Energy of Action – Guest Post by Eric Rountree

Blogathon Workspace, 1 PM

I met Eric through the collaborative writing site Protagonize where he goes by the handle FaltarEgo (long story, ask him and he will tell you!). He writes plenty of amazing humour and science fiction stuff. He has generously offered to do a guest post for me, so I can take a breather for a bit. Thank you Eric!

EricEarlier today, Ganga posted a blogathon entry about “The Sweet Spot”, where Gifts, Purpose, and Passion meet. I’m all over this, and though I don’t always take my own advice, I know there’s tremendous energy in doing what you love, and in doing the things that are the right things for you.

Today, for example, has been just that kind of day for me. I had a few things on my list that I was intent on doing: Working up some graphics for my blog (the new one I’m getting ready), replying to a writing
friend with some writing advice, compiling a list of locations for the documentary I’m preparing to make, downloading a module for Drupal so I can experiment with it in preparation for helping out a non-profit
organization, and,  of course, catching up on e-mail,  Facebook,  Twitter, and Protagonize.

The act of jumping back and forth amongst these tasks (and others) seems to have created a tremendous amount of energy. Because, somewhere in there, I discovered that Ganga had started following me on Twitter, and soon I was not only tweeting to others about his blogathon, but also being invited to guest post on the blog!

My creative energy goes mostly into writing. I’m sometimes pulled in by other things (video, filmmaking, web design) but the writing is the basic unit of my creative currency. And when I’m doing creative things that are good for me and move me forward, I start getting signs.

Ganga is doing a most impressive thing today. He’s funneling his creative energies into a cause in which he believes and in which he is personally invested. That kind of action generates even more creative
energy, and it will doubtless produce some amazing effects.

I hope my day of creative energy moves me forward in my pursuits as well. And I hope you can funnel some of your own creative energies into the things you want most in your life.

You just know when you’re doing the right thing.
